Well, it worked!  We turned an old ugly green countertop into a "better looking" neutral faux stone countertop. It actually looks better than I thought. The lighting is still horrendous in the bathroom so please forgive the photographs. Below I will show you 5 easy steps to change that ugly countertop.

Step 1: Tape off your sinks and surrounding walls.

Step 2: Sand the countertop

Step 3: Prime the countertop (we did two coats)

Step 4: Spray with "stone" spray paint. It comes in a variety of colors. Pictured below is what we used. We did two coats which was about 2 cans worth. I previously had bought this at Michael's using a coupon of course!

Step 5: Seal with polyurethane. We did four coats.

So we are far from being finished in the bathroom, but 5 steps and a brand new counter....not bad for Recession Renovation.
